Settling the Score

The Remarkable Rise, Fall and Redemption of John Forté

At 26, John Forté had gone from the streets of Brooklyn to rubbing shoulders with the ”elite“ at the Exeter Academy. He had become a Grammy nominated whiz-kid producer, and tasted stardom with the Fugees. He had lost his money and gotten involved in drug trafficking. He had been the target of an FBI sting operation, arrested at Newark airport with a suitcase full of cocaine, and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

From the global rise of Hip Hop and rap stardom to the war on drugs and the prison industrial complex, the film recounts the dramatic story of John Forté, and settles the score on the continuous cultural and political impact of the 90’s.
